  • Dragon*Con 2006

    Wahhhhhh!!!!!!

As you may notice from the categories tags, Dragon*Con was a multi-threaded, awesomely spectacular, ravingly cool, devastatingly delicious weekend. There’s so much to talk about, I’m not sure where to start. This will probably end up being a multiple posting.

I’ll start by saying, I bought a new camera the week before Dragon*Con, and I’m still working with the settings. Unfortunately, I had the white balance set on tungsten all weekend, so my pictures are a bit blue. I’ll be photoshopping them to adjust the color balance before I post anything. ‘Til then, you’ll just have to deal with my descriptions.

I think I will leave this post as is. Dragon*Con 2006 was great! I’ve already made hotel reservations for next year.

[editorital addition] It seems this post is similar to last year’s post. That’s ok! I feel that this year was even better, but that is probably because of the bevey of friends that made the trip here for the Con.

  • Snakes on a Plane

As several of my friends have already noted, a bunch of people in geographically disparate locations saw Snakes on a Plane this opening weekend.

My general impression/review is: Exactly what I expected. Campy, stupid, yet still righteously awesome.

I found it to be a little bit too gratutitously violent, though. Especially when the violence/gore didn’t serve any purpose beyond trying to freak out the audience.

  • New Quote!

I’ve added a new quote to my dial-a-quote over there on the right-hand sidebar. I liked it so much, I thought I would feature it here.

One of my greatest pleasures in writing hascome from the thought that perhaps my work might annoy someone of comfortably pretentious position.

Then comes the saddening realization that such people rarely read.

Yesterday we participated in the Grand Atlanta Tradition of the Peachtree Road Race. It’s 10k race starting near the corner of Lenox Road and Peachtree Street, runs south through Buckhead and Midtown, makes a left on 10th street, and ends at Piedmont Park. 55,000 runners participate. Yesterday’s winners ran it in 27:47 (men’s) and 31:52 (women’s). My time (1:22:38), unfortunately didn’t place me in the top ten, but I have hopes next year of being in the top 10,000.

This year’s race wasn’t so good to me because I was injured and I ran reaaaaallllyyyy slowly. Then again, the starting temperature was 75 degrees F at 7:30 and it only got warmer as the day went on. By the time I was around the 5 mile mark it was HOT. Plus, don’t forget our glorious Atlanta humidity! Plenty of people were walking the majority of the course. Despite how slowly I was moving, I was passing an awful lot of people.

My final clock time was 1:57:45 so I crossed the start line at +35:07. That’s an eight minute improvement over last year!

  • Blog Splurge!

I’ve been cleaning up my to-be-blogged-about list today, as you can tell if you read my blog. What with Rush Limbaugh being detained and the Israeli Defence Force moving into Gaza and all the other crap going on in the world (like this) it is sometimes difficult to talk about something cheerful and fun.

Like the story of Mr. Gorsky, which is not true, but still an amusing story. Plus, I like the crater.
