Injury and Waiting

If I had to run the Ironman today, I couldn’t. I wouldn’t even be DNF (did not finish); instead I’d be DNS (did not start).

Yesterday morning, I strained my lower back muscles in the most ignominious manner possible: getting off the can.

Yesterday I couldn’t straighten up. Today I’m a bit better, but still hobbling. Hopefully tomorrow and the following days will see improvement until I can conceivably compete in this race.

So now I wait. Wait to heal enough to race or wait to not heal enough to race. I expect I won’t know one way or another until Friday.

  5. […] Yeah, that’s about it. And if you want to get technical, I probably recouped the entry fee by not showing up in Florida and spending four days in a hotel eating food and drinking beer. So, that second one is a wash. That leaves the first. I may not be an “Ironman” in the sense that I’ve completed a 140.6 mile full-distance triathlon, but I’m confident enough in myself and my training program that I would have finished except for the timing of that pesky injury.
