Fascinating divergence of description.
>From Georgia.Gov:
Marietta was one of the cities Union General William Sherman spared before going to burn Atlanta in 1864. Today Marietta is home to four National Historic Districts listed on the National Register of Historic Places.
But if you read the description of Cobb County on Georgia.gov, you get:
Marietta was named for Judge Cobb’s wife. The city’s downtown was destroyed by Sherman’s troops in 1864, but it was reconstructed and now Marietta is home to four National Historic Districts listed on the National Register of Historic Places.
I believe that the second one is more correct than the first one, but I honestly don’t know enough about the history of the place I live to be certain. I should correct that.
