BMI (what?!)

Holy Crap! I’m “overweight”.

My Body Mass Index (BMI) is 25.1, which just smidgeons into “overweight”.

Bastards. Now I have all sorts of issues for which I’ll need therapy.

O.k. last time I looked, there is no freaking way you are overweight!

Before you started training, I out-sized you w/out question, and I never crawl out of the normal weight range (as an aside, it’s pretty scary how wide the ‘normal weight’ for my/our height is).

Based on the math for BMI, you now outweigh me by roughly 20lbs, but I doubt you’re overweight.

Partly, because the BMI can’t deal with lean people with a lot of muscle mass. Read more about BMI and “overweight” athletes.

I totally agree with Annie. No freakin way you are overweight, or even in the category. I just don’t feel that chart is very accurate.

    Doesn’t muscle weigh more anyway?

Oh, I’m totally with you guys. The BMI has always struck me as a less-than-useful tool for broad categorization. The thought that some schools might have funding decided for them on the basis of an average student BMI is disheartening.

And you’re right, Annie, about the weight range. I don’t want to see someone who is 5’9″ and weighs 125. That’s a bit skinny.
