Atlanta Mayor Demographics

The demographics of the vote for the next Atlanta Mayor are not exactly surprising. If you’re at all familiar with the city you recognize the higher income and lower income areas on the linked map. What is somewhat surprising to me is that (as of this morning) Kasim Reed, the Democratic candidate, was claiming victory with a 700 vote margin out of 80,000 votes cast. If you look at the map, it looks like an overwhelming victory rather than a less-than-1% squeak-by.

Mr. Reed took 9 of 12 districts yet is only ahead by 700 votes? The northern districts must have gone 95% for Ms. Norwood.
