I took this in Concord, MA, while we were up New England way for a Wedding. It’s a bit overexposed, but I didn’t have time to mess with it in Photoshop.

I love stone walls. The funny thing is, take out that stone wall and it could be anywhere. Put the stone wall in, and it’s instantly New England. I never realized how omnipresent they were in the landscape until I left.

@Mike
Yep, and overnight, they crop up when you’re not paying attention. There’s one that recently appeared at the corner of our portion of the road and the road that turns off (yeah, at the point where my road narrows!) that they put right on the edge of the lawn/road (meaning, no set back from the pavement at all).
I don’t want to know what happens to cars and snowplows this winter when the wall (which is only about 18″ high) gets buried in a snow bank and people fail to navigate the corner.

My dad and I made several rock walls at our house in Bedford, NH. You really appreciate an authentic rock wall once you’ve tried to make one similar to them. Moving those huge rocks around, and getting them to fit so nice and neatly, is not an easy thing to do.
