I can’t say that I’ve ever had something of this magnitude happen to me (no blood, don’t worry), but I’ve been in the position of saying, “we’re going to stop doing this now.”
Let it never be said that I can’t learn a lesson when it hits me in the ear protection.

Holy crap. Stopping is certainly a prudent decision. I’m afraid that too many gun nuts of lesser intelligence wouldn’t.
I don’t want to envision how that might have played out had the guy not been wise enough to put on ear protection (as Jim said, too many gun nuts of a lesser intelligence wouldn’t have taken that step).
Considering I’ve just spent my first Fourth of July in a state where fireworks are legal, I second (third) their wisdom over the average gun nut/pyromaniac.
